More Pictures of the Lantern Festival

Chinese Lantern Festival

This year the Missouri Botanical Garden hosted a very special event called Lantern Festival: Art by Day, Magic By Night. It is the first event of it's kind in the United States and has attracted visitors from all over the country. The planning for this event took over three years and is staged to celebrate the completion of a 25 year effort to record the diverse plant life of China in a multi-volume publication called the Flora of China.

Many artisans traveled from China and spent months constructing these larger than life lanterns from steel frames, silk, medicine bottles and dinnerware. They are absolutely amazing! I feel very fortunate to have seen this exhibit in such a beautiful setting as the world renowned Missouri Botanical Garden. Hope you enjoyed seeing these photos of the festival.

Have a blessed day,
Carol

Hey Peeps! Sorry I have not been blogging for a while, a long while. I haven't made many cards lately but I have been working in my art journals and on mail art exchanges. They are both new activities that I recently started and enjoy very much. Here is a two page spread from one of my art journals celebrating Team USA, especialy Michael Phelps Olympic success. Hope you enjoy seeing something other than cards.

I am the DIva Weekly Challenge #58

If you are here for the World Card Making Blog Hop please scroll down.

For my regular readers this post is a bit different. Recently, I have been exploring other areas of art, including art journaling, drawing and Zentangle. Zentangle, ia a way of creating beautiful images using repetitive patterns that is both fun and relaxing. You can learn more about it here: http://www.zentangle.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=99.

This week I am participating in a Zentangle Challenge on the I am the Diva Blog, http://iamthedivaczt.blogspot.com/2012/02/weekly-challenge-58.html, in honor of the Four Diamonds Fund for cancer patients at Penn State Hershey's Childrens Hospital.

Have a blessed day,

Basic Grey Use Up Your Scraps Challenge

If you are here for the World Card Making Day Blog Hop, scroll down.

Basic Grey's weekly challenge is to use up your scraps. I just got the new Piccadilly collection and did not really have any scraps yet. So I decided to use a piece of the packaging as my scrap. On the cover of the packaging there are small pictures of each of the patten papers in the pack. I cut a piece of this to make my card front. Now that really is getting my money's worth out of the entire collection pack.

World Card Making Day Winners Blog Hop

Welcome to ScrapHappy Studio and the World Card Making Day Winners Blog Hop! I am glad that you are visiting today. There will be prizes along the way, so, be sure to leave comments for all the participants to increase your chance of winning some goodies!

You should have arrived from the lovely Becky Olsen's Blog.

First off, I would like to thank Paper Crafts and the many sponsors of the contest for such a fabulous honor and wonderful prize package! Believe me, it was just like Christmas when I opened my prize boxes! So fun!

I want to share my WCMD winning entry, in case you have not yet seen it in the March/April 2012 Issue of Paper Crafts Magazine. My card, Hello Foxy, was one of four winners in the Hello/Thinking of You category. I have never won anything like this contest before and was so thrilled when I was informed.

I have been making cards for awhile and began to submit my work for publication about two years ago. I have had one other project published by Paper Crafts Magazine in the 2011 Special Issue, Holiday Cards & More Vol. 6. Here's a picture of that project, a Christmas Stocking garland.

I have also had some projects published in other publications and I thought I would share a few of those with you today as well. I love my Cricut Expression (oh, and the Zing Die Cutting machine I won too!) and I make a lot of cards with the adorable images available. Here's some that were published last year:

If you love this craft as much as I do, I encourage you to submit your projects to magazines and contests. I do not paper craft to win contests or be published but it sure is exciting when it happens, so give it a try.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I've been up to in my studio. I do have a surprise box of crafting goodies for one lucky commenter and a copy of the March/April Issue of Paper Crafts Magazine for another, where you can see all the winning entries and some other fab projects as well.

Here's what you need to do to have a chance to win:

1. Become a Follower of my blog.

2. Leave a comment on today's post, let me know you are a Follower.

3. Comments close on Monday, February 20th at 11:59 PM PST.

4. Sorry, but due to shipping costs, only US addresses are eligible to win my prize box. Anyone is eligible to receive the complimentary copy of Paper Crafts Magazine.
5. The winners will be posted on my blog on Wednesday, February 22. Winners will need to contact me so that I can get the prizes shipped.

Thanks for stopping by, have a blessed day,
Carol

Die Cutting Challenge in the Moxie Fab World

Here's my entry for the Die Cutting Challenge on the Moxie Fab Blog, http://www.moxiefabworld.com/search?updated-max=2012-01-10T06:00:00-05:00&max-results=10.

I used my Cricut Expression and the Accents Essentials cartridge to cut the elements on this card. I did a negative die cut image of the floral flourish and backed it with a piece of green striped pattern paper using pop dots to give a shadow box effect. I then added die cut flowers that I cut in two colors, dry embossed and then layered with a brad as the flower center. I finished it off with a simple birthday sentiment banner. I really like how the shadow box effect turned out, so I think I'll be using that again.

Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Have a blessed day,
Carol

Unity Kit of the Month January Sketch Challenge

This month's Kit of the Month Sketch Challenge is:

Here's my take on the sketch using bits and pieces from three different Kits of the Month, KOM August 2009, January 2011 and April 2011. It is fun to mix and match and come up with new combinations.

Thanks for stopping by today,

Carol

Unity Stamp Company Challenge

This month's Unity Challenge is all about gift giving. So, I made a cute birthday gift tag using the Unity/Jillibean Soup co-branded set Spotted Owl Soup. I have not used this set much and it was fun to get it out and ink it up. I used my Copics to color the image and made my own background paper using one of the smaller stamps in the set. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Have a blessed day,
Carol

Stampendous January 2012 Challenge

This month's Stampendous Challenge is to use lots of bling on a project. I made this card using Stampendous Clear sets SSC113 and SSC134. After stamping the vine and leaf images, I colored them using Prismacolor pencils and added Stampendous Silver Blossom Sparklers Class A Peel Stickers. I used some blue gemstones for the flower centers. It needed a bit more bling so I used a beaded flower embellishment as the main focal point. I really enjoyed combining the stickers and flower with the stamped elements.

Thanks for taking a look, please leave a much appreciated comment.

Have a great day,
Carol
